About

I am a documentary filmmaker based in Aveiro, Portugal.

Eyewitness is the primary gateway into my documentary world — a publishing site for my work, including documentary films and photography plus other non-fiction videos. Also see my YouTube channel Eyewitness by Andy Cline.

I am an Emeritus Professor of media and journalism at Missouri State University. I taught courses in documentary filmmaking, mobile/online journalism, and media ethics.

I’ve worked as a documentary producer, director, and cinematographer. I’m a member of the Board of Directors of Carbon Trace Productions — a non-profit documentary film studio I co-founded in 2017 in Springfield, Missouri. I continue to work with Carbon Trace as needed. I am also producing non-fiction videos of all kinds under the Eyewitness brand.

Tell Me What You Need

I’m available to help with all sorts of non-fiction video/photo projects in the documentary style. Just click the digital business card here or under my mug shot at the bottom of the page, and tell me what you have in mind.

I take humanitarian service very seriously, so I do a certain amount of free work for nonprofit organizations. Contact me, and I’ll be happy to talk about it. I am working mostly with nonprofits in Portugal currently.  For example, I have worked with the Syrian American Medical Society, the East Meets West Foundation, and Missão Saúde para a Humanidade.

Current Documentary Film Projects

Os Marnotos — This documentary short film is in production now. It tells the story of three generations of a family that works making sea salt in Aveiro, Portugal by traditional methods.

Gigantes Verdes — This documentary film is in production now. It tells the story of a program by the conservation group Verde to find, map, and study the ancient trees of Portugal.

Trinity — This documentary short is in post production now. Trinity is a highly personal, experimental, and esoteric film about a road trip where the participants examine the current crisis era in the United States in the context of arguably the culminating event of the last crisis era, the detonation of the first atomic bomb. The film draws heavily on the theory of generational personality as explained in the book “Generations: The History of America’s Future, 1584 to 2069” by Strauss & Howe.
